Statement of Personal Aesthetic

Theatre is a response to life, not an escape from it.

By “playing pretend” we can discover something truly genuine about ourselves and the world around us.

Stanislavski’s major lesson to actors is the magic of “what if?” but what if this were expanded beyond acting, to the full artistic experience? What if we believed something that we never thought we could, even if for a few hours in the theatre? How would this change us once we left the theatre, As an actor, designer, director, or audience member?

The aim of my work is to constantly challenge our preconceived notions about the world around us. One of the greatest obstacles to growth is thinking we understand it all. I don’t ask the audience to leave the outside world at the door, but rather to bring those experiences and thoughts with them when they take their seat.

I believe in the power of collaboration and the sharing of ideas. The most destructive word in the creative process is “no”. Instead I would rather let the ideas of the team be focused through the creative prism of our art’s thesis.
